Kowara, Queen of the Toy Dogs

Kowara, the Miniature Pinscher on the grooming table.

This week’s Klip Joint Dog Grooming dog of the week is Kowara. She is a lovely Miniature Pinscher and very well behaved. She was very cooperative in sitting for her photo-shoot. We never have to worry about her being a “little biter.”

The Miniature Pinscher comes from Germany. It was developed from the Dachshund, Italian Greyhound, and the shorthaired German Pinscher. They look like a mini Doberman, most likely because both the Miniature Pinscher and the Doberman were developed from the German Pinscher. In Germany they are known as the Zwergpinscher (little biter). The breed was used as a barnyard ratter, to control the rodent population. The Miniature Pinscher is often called the “King Of The Toys.” Some of this dog’s talents are competitive obedience, watchdog and agility.

The Miniature Pinscher’s smooth, shorthaired hard coat is easy to take care of. Comb and brush with a firm bristle brush. You can remove loose hair by wiping them off with a warm, damp cloth. This breed sheds in the average range. Care must be taken in cold weather. Owners often use sweaters or baby blankets for a miniature pinscher because they are sensitive to the cold. Miniature pinschers are an active breed and will need access to a fenced yard or be given a daily walk.

Kowara is a royal Min Pin.
